Academic Program Specialist, Department of Nursing

This position is responsible for managing clinical site contracts and clinical clearance for nursing students. This person works closely with faculty and students to secure preceptors and advance students through the clinical portions of their program. This position assists with data collection for student and course outcomes as directed by the department chair. 

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED equivalency and three years of office experience or two years of post-secondary education.

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in a university setting
  • Three plus years working in an office setting
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft products including, word, excel and access 
  • Excellent written and grammar skills    
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service
  • Supervisory experience

Responsibilities:  Answer phone calls, emails, and greet walk-ins to answer questions concerning nursing programs.  Visit with students, clinical sites, and preceptors regarding clinical placement. Counsel students on the clinical site approval process and keep students updated in regards to their progress. Coordinate data collection and analysis of student and course outcome data for departmental, state, and national reports.  Ability to work independently and as a team. Capable of producing precise and detailed work.  Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff and the public. Help with social media accounts.

About the Department:

Fort Hays State University Department of Nursing serves undergraduate students in a traditional on-campus BSN program and a virtual RN to BSN program. The department offers a Master’s of Nursing Education degree and a Master’s of Nursing Administration degree. In summer of 2016, the department launched a Doctorate of Nursing Practice program with an emphasis as a Family Nurse Practitioner for BSN to DNP students. At that time they also launched a Post Master’s Doctorate of Nursing Practice program for APRNs.
