Job Purpose and Objectives:

Responsible for answering requests for service from the public, including all emergency calls and dispatching appropriate emergency personnel. 

Essential Functions: 

  1. Operates the dispatch system by answering 911 and administrative calls for assistance and manage callers identify and mitigate caller safety, document information accurately, and provide pre-arrival instructions
  2. Process and prioritizes requests for service and dispatches appropriate personnel including county-wide law enforcement, fire, ambulance, animal control, and public works departments
  3. Maintains status and checks welfare of first responders
  4. Monitors building alarms and alarm systems through alarm companies for all Ellis County institutions
  5. Monitors National Warning System communications
  6. Maintains detailed and accurate records of all requests, responses, and resource information
  7. Gathers and provides road and weather information and activates severe weather alerts and notifies Emergency Operations Center personnel
  8. Relays necessary information to other agencies
  9. Maintains information on county-wide entry data to the National Crime Information Center and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
  10. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and ordinances
  11. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
  12. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  13. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
  14. Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic
  15. Testifies in court as needed
  16. Attends trainings and maintains certifications
